Khakan Qureshi

Khakan was recently awarded the Midlands Zone ‘BIRMINGHAM LGBTQ+ COMMUNITY: OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT AWARD’
Earlier this year, he was one of the recipients of the Points of Light Award. This adds to a list of several nominations of LGBT+ awards.
Khakan is the Founder of Finding A Voice, a voluntary led organisation for South Asians LGBT+ aged 18+ of any faith, culture, religion or disability.
Khakan, despite threats, joined No Outsiders creator Andrew Moffat and political LGBT Muslim activist Saima Razzaq – and all three led the Birmingham Pride Parade last year – the very first time the parade was led by members of the LGBTQ+ Muslim community – to support ‘No Outsiders’ in schools.
Khakan has written articles about his personal experiences of being a gay Muslim for Attitude, The Gay UK, Gay Times and appeared on TV, radio and newspapers talking about representation within the gay community and mental health
I’d be delighted to be a Pride 365 Champion as I am passionate about LGBT+ rights, Equality and Diversity.
I believe Pride needs to reconnect with its grassroots activism and be more considerate about the community which it serves, which to me, means being less corporate and more collaborative with individuals and organisations that matter.
